Following the launch of Churnalism.com, the Media Standards Trust (MST), in partnership with the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), will be holding a lively panel debate on churnalism, on Wednesday 6th July 7PM.

 

The motion for the debate is: This house believes news articles based on press releases should be marked ‘advertorial ‘


For the motion: Chris Atkins (Director of StarSuckers, & Taking Liberties), & James Randerson (Guardian Science/Environment Editor)

 

Against the motion: David Higgerson (Head of Multimedia, Trinity Mirror), & Trevor Morris (former CEO of Chime Communications PR Group; author of 'PR – A Persuasive Industry?')

This debate will be taking place after an RSS afternoon workshop - Behind the numbers: revealing a better story  -  in association with the BBC College of Journalism, at the Royal Statistical Society, Wednesday, July 06, 2011 from 3:45 PM - 6:00 PM. Workshop speakers will include Nigel Hawkes (Straight Statistics), Patrick Casey and Owen Spottiswoode (Full Fact), Richard Knight and Richard Vadon (More of Less, BBC R4), and Rob Cook (Bazian, NHS Behind the Headlines).
